Children’s Capitol for a Day
In January 2020, for the 5th consecutive year, FCAAP and the Florida Pediatric Foundation (FPF) participated in the Children’s Capitol for a Day event. The event, which draws over 5,000 attendees, is hosted at the Florida State Capitol each year to remind Florida’s legislators to keep the health and welfare of kids in mind while considering bills. The Chapter and the Foundation co-hosted a booth in the courtyard of the Capitol to interact with kids and families throughout the day, playing games and sharing resources.
FCAAP Pediatric Resident Legislative Advocacy Training Program
In January 2020, for the 3rd consecutive year, the FCAAP Pediatric Resident Legislative Advocacy Training Program was hosted during Children’s Week. Residents from all 13 pediatric residency programs in the state travelled to Tallahassee to learn about the state legislative process and to advocate on behalf of children. The group of advocates, accompanied by FCAAP leadership and staff, received a behind-the-scenes look at the legislative process with Senator Aaron Bean before meeting with a variety of legislators in both the House and Senate to discuss pending legislation which would impact the practice of pediatrics and the health of Florida’s children.
