FCAAP Appoints New Representative to Board of Directors

Following a recent vacancy in the Region 1 Representative position, The Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FCAAP) has appointed Shaista Safder, MD, FAAP, Dipl. of ABOM as Region 1 Representative to its Board of Directors for the remainder of the 2020-2022 term, effective January 1, 2022.

FCAAP, AAP, First Focus, and 70 Child Advocacy Organizations Call on Gov. DeSantis to Protect Immigrant Children

Today, the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FCAAP), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), First Focus, and 70 other organizations from Florida and around the country sent a letter to Governor Ron DeSantis urging him to withdraw an executive order that endangers the health and well-being of thousands of immigrant children.

AAP Applauds CDC Advisory Group Recommendation on COVID-19 Vaccine for Ages 5-11

The American Academy of Pediatrics supports today’s recommendation by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to recommend the use of a COVID-19 vaccine in children ages 5-11. The AAP urges families to check with their pediatrician and community health care providers about how to get their eligible children vaccinated, pending a final recommendation from the CDC.

Pediatricians, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists and Children’s Hospitals Declare National Emergency in Children’s Mental Health

Today, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and the Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) together representing more than 77,000 physician members and more than 200 children’s hospitals, declared a national state of emergency in child and adolescent mental health and are calling on policymakers to join them.

FCAAP Supports Continued Use of Masks in Schools

Since children under 12 years of age are still not yet eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and the vaccine will most likely not be available for this age group until winter of 2021, most children are still at risk for Coronavirus infection and transmitting the infection to others. Both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend masking in schools.
