2024 FCAAP SCHIEBLER AWARD RECIPIENT

Jun 1, 2024 | News

Congratulations to Dr. David Paul Robinson for being selected as the 2024 Audrey Lincourt Schiebler, RN, FAAP, and Gerold Schiebler, MD, FAAP, Advocacy Award recipient! The award is given annually to a physician who has worked beyond the profession, educated local and state legislators, and diligently advocated to improve the health and welfare of Florida’s children.

Dr. Robinson has been an active member of FCAAP since 2009 and served on the Executive Committee from 2014-2020. He has been a fearless advocate for Florida’s children during his leadership of FCAAP and before. When the Florida Legislature passed a law making it possible for a pediatrician to lose his/her license if they ask about gun ownership in Florida, Dr. Robinson passionately testified against the law. During and after his term as 2018-2020 Chapter President, he repeatedly stood up to controversial legislation on topics such as gender-affirming health care for transgender youth; isolating, masking, and returning to school during the COVID-19 pandemic; the Parents Bill of Rights; and a pelvic exam law that negatively impacted the health and well-being of Florida’s children. He spearheaded the creation of the white paper “FCAAP Recommendations Regarding Schools During the COVID-19 Pandemic”, sent to the governor of Florida early in the COVID-19 pandemic with FCAAP Recommendations Regarding Schools.

As an adolescent medicine physician Dr. Robinson has, throughout his career, been a strong advocate for children with mental health issues and has spent much of his career working to help them, particularly children with eating disorders. Over the years, he has also put much effort into teaching pediatricians and residents.

Dr. Robinson’s receipt of the 2024 Schiebler Award will be officially announced at The Future of Pediatric Practice 2024 on August 30 – September 1 in Orlando. Thank you, Dr. Robinson, for your significant contributions and advocacy for Florida’s children, and congratulations!
